Sylvester J. Twenter, 88, of Independence, Mo., formerly of Clifton City, passed away Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at the Villages of Jackson Creek in Independence, Mo.
Mr. Twenter was born on October 27, 1925, in Pilot Grove, Mo., to Arthur and Minnie (Kempf) Twenter. He married Georgia Samer in Sedalia on July 14, 1951, who survives of the home. He was a lifelong member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Clifton City, where he served as a lector and Eucharistic Minister, and served on the St. Patrick Parish Council. He farmed in the Clifton City area for over sixty years; served in the United States Army during the Korean War; was a member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post # 642.
He is survived by his wife, Georgia Twenter of the home; two sons, Larry Twenter of Sedalia, Paul (Julie) Twenter of Liberty; one daughter, Marsha (David) Lehning; seven grandchildren, Crystal Owens, Parker Twenter, Kristen Diotte, Steven Lehning, Kyle Lehning, Mallory Twenter and Paige Twenter; one brother, Arthur (Rita) Twenter Jr. of Pilot Grove; and two sisters, Kathleen Reusch of Green Ridge, and Joyce (Charles) Craven of Pilot Grove.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Carol Diotte; one sister, Alberta Reusch; and one infant brother.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Clifton City; with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be after 9:30 a.m., with a prayer service beginning at 10:40 a.m., on Wednesday prior to the service.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Joseph Cemetery in Clifton City.
