Thomas Edward Akers Obituary
Thomas Edward Akers, the son of Lucy Mae (Rush) and William Edward Akers, was born July 20, 1938, in Chilhowee, Mo. He passed on May 9, 2014, at the age of 75.

He was a loving husband, stepfather, grandfather and unforgettable uncle. He was an avid KC Chiefs and Royals fan, a cook extraordinaire, especially BBQ. He loved country music, dancing, fishing, mushroom hunting, food, and spending time with family. He worked as a construction worker until he was permanently disabled. Preceding him in death were his wife of 31 years, Stella M. (Roe/Honeycutt); his parents; a son, Glen Honeycutt; a daughter, Lucille Wilson; two grandsons, Danny Stark and Timmy Keffner; one brother, William (Bill) Akers; and 4 sisters, Lucille Obanion, Betty Carpenter, Pauline Durand and Mary Ratliff.

He is survived by a son, Al Honeycut of Hulbert, Okla.; daughters, Shirley and husband, Ken DeWolf, of Lowry, Mo., Frances Tidwell of Odessa, Mo., Joann and husband, Steve Dolan, of Independence, Mo., Dorothy Stark of Bates City, Mo., and Betty Woodmancy of Rogers, Ark.; twenty-six grandchildren; sixty-two great-grandchildren; thirty-two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Referred to as Poppy by great-niece, Olivia.

A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, May 26, at the Community of Christ Church, 1001 S. Sibley St., Buckner, MO 64016. Visitation is at 1 p.m., with the service at 2 p.m., followed by a reception.

The family request that all sentiments be sent to Paula Taylor, 802 N. Allen Road, Independence, MO 64050, rather than to the church.
