Anna Mae (Smart) Gard Obituary

Anna Mae (Smart) Gard, 87, Independence, Mo., passed away peacefully Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Kansas City Hospice House.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, at South Crysler Restoration Branch, 16101 E. Salisbury Road, Independence, MO 64050. A graveside service and interment will be at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, Mo.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64145 or Center Place Restoration School, 819 W. Waldo Ave., Independence, MO 64050.

Anna Mae was born October 1, 1926, in Eads, Colo. She was married on October 29, 1948, to Edgar Gard, who preceded her in death on November 10, 2008. She was a devoted wife and mother and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She was a faithful member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and a member of the South Crysler Restoration Branch at the time of her passing.

She is survived by two brothers, Clyde Smart of Reno, Nev., and Paul Smart of Kearney, Mo.; three sisters, Wilma Dunlap, Bonnie Thomas and Betty (Kenneth) Stobaugh, all of Independence, Mo.; three sons, Gregory (Jean) Gard, Jeffrey (Pam) Gard, and Bradley (Melody) Gard; daughter, Lynette (Paul) Davis; nine grandchildren, Candy Stone, Cerissa Bruns, Shauna Jacks, Libby Gard, Molly Gard, Rachael Wittenberger, Angela Stevenson, Rachel Wood and Christian Davis; ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
