Over the next three and a half years they spent only a total of six months together before the war ended and they settled in Kansas City, Mo. In 1953, they moved to Lake Tapawingo, Mo., and joined the Blue Springs First United Methodist Church, where they remained active members throughout their lives.

Fleta was a member of UMW, Savannah Circle, PEO, and the Service Class Sunday school. Fleta was also active with her sons in Cub and Boy Scouts, and Blue Springs' first president of the American Field Service, a foreign student exchange program. In 1960, as a founding partner, Paul started Blue Springs Marine, where Fleta was the secretary and bookkeeper for over 23 years.

Survivors include son, Jim Rand and his wife, Nancy, son, Robert Rand, granddaughter, Carrie Siems and her husband, Jeff Siems, and grandson, Bentley Siems, her sister, Martha Sowers, and sister-in-law, Mary Ruth Rand.
