Norman Joseph "Joe" Choplin Sr. Obituary
Norman Joseph "Joe" Choplin Sr., 81, of Independence, Mo., passed away Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at Centerpoint Medical Center.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at Country Meadows Baptist Church, 4901 S Lee's Summit Road, Kansas City, Mo., with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence. Donations may be made in his name to the LifePoint Services Inc., P.O. Box 495, Independence, MO 64051.

Joe was born November 17, 1931, in Independence, Mo., to William Clay and Beulah (Mann) Choplin, Sr. and has been a lifelong area resident, graduating from William Chrisman High School in 1949. He attended college at Southwest Baptist in Bolivar, Mo., and Midwestern Baptist Seminary in Kansas City, Mo. He owned and operated J&I Enterprises for a number of years. He enjoyed working and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Country Meadows Baptist Church, where he served as deacon emeritus, was in the choir, served as Sunday school teacher and helped on mission trips. At the time of his passing he was a member of Sycamore Hills Baptist Church. He was also a member of the American Legion.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Icel (Wiebers) Choplin of the home; four children, Betty Woodside and her husband, Charles Anthony "Tony", of Independence, Mo., Norman Joseph "Joe" Choplin Jr. and his wife, Betty, of Kansas City, Mo., Patti Rude and her husband, Terry, of Kansas City, Mo., and John Choplin and wife, Cindy, of Grandview, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Helen Margaret Choplin; two brothers, William Choplin Jr. and Keith Choplin; and a sister, Elizabeth Choplin.
