XENIA Quinn Edgar Ames Jr., age 80, of Xenia, passed away October 10, 2013 at Miami Valley Hospital. He was born the son of Quinn Sr. and Flora (Johnson) Ames, on December 22, 1932 in Chillicothe, OH.
In 1953, Quinn joined the US Army, serving with the Finance Corps. He continued on as a Budget and Financial Analyst with Wright Patterson Air Force Base for 37 1/2 years. He attended the University of Dayton, studying Accounting. He was the owner of Ames Accounting Services. He was also active in the local PTA for 8 years. He was a councilman for the EEOC; and as well as a member of Blacks in Government, holding several board offices over an 8 year span. He was also active on the Board of the Xenia YMCA, holding various offices including Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Quinn loved to play the piano and organ, and his musical talents were heard in various churches for over 50 years. Quinn loved to travel. He felt God had put him here on Earth to help others and he enjoyed this. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Quinn was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 47 years, Cleola J. Ames; sisters: Ethel Donaldson; Opal Stephens; Dora Lee; Lula Bell Ames; Sadie Ames; and brother: John T. Ames.
He is survived by his daughter: Fay L. Ames of Xenia; sons: Quinn Ames III (Rubie) of Beavercreek, and DeWayne M. Ames (Xena) of Indianapolis, IN; a brother: Alonzo (Sylvia) Ames of Fort Worth, TX; 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Friday, October 18, 2013 at the First Baptist Church, 600 Dayton St., Yellow Springs, with Pastor William E. Randolph, Jr. officiating.
