Richard Henry Lee Hill

XENIA Richard Henry Lee Hill, was born April 20, 1933 in Bern Township. Athens County Ohio, the son of Boyd R. and Chelsea Male Hill. He passed away peacefully with his wife at his side on Sunday December 2, 2012 at Greene Oaks Nursing Center in Xenia, Ohio.

His fifth great grandfather, Wilmer Male I, a Revolutionary War soldier was born in Yorkshire England in 1755. He comes from coal miners, stonemasons, hunters and trappers from Monongalia, Hampshire and Barbour Counties in West Virginia, who migrated into Southeastern Ohio.

After the family moved to Morgan County, Richard attended Malta-McConnellsville High School where he played football.

An Army Veteran, Richard was in the 101st Airborne at Fort Campbell Kentucky during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge, he was employed at "DESC" (Defense Electronic Supply Center). He later sold real estate and worked in the construction business. That experience gave him the ability to build two homes for his family. After retiring from DESC he worked for the Greene County Agricultural Society at the Greene County Fairgrounds.

He was married to Cordelia Marie Thompson and they spent over 60 years together with their children in Wilberforce, Ohio.

He loved hunting and fishing with his sons, Ricky, (the deer hunter), and Conrad who once went to sleep under a tree while "coon" hunting. His fishing buddy was his daughter Marie, who never got tired and sat on the bank with him for hours.

His love of horses inspired him to groom, train, drive and own horses, more as a hobby than a business. His daughter Stephanie loved horses and her son Tyler took a horse out on the track when he was seven. When Carol was five, he took her to Stan's donut shop on North Detroit St. and then to the fairground with him. Richard left his daughter Cheryl's wedding reception in his "tux" to feed the horses. Neelia and Jackie were the gardeners.

He was a former member of The Greene County Harness Horsemen's Association, Ralph P. Snook Post #186 of the American Legion, Lebanon, Ohio, and The Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. He was a member of the First United Christian Church Xenia.
