FAIRBORN — USAF SSgt. (Ret.) Everette A. "Van" Van Hoose, age 77 of Fairborn, passed away Saturday March 15, 2014. He was born March 26, 1936 in Wayne, West Virginia, the son of the late Roy M. and Lona Mae (Porter) Van Hoose. Everette served his country in the U.S. Air Force during Korea, retiring in 1973 after 21 years of service. Following his military career he was employed in civil service as a firefighter. An avid fisherman, he was a member of Fairborn Lodge No. 764 F&AM, a lifetime member of the VFW; and he played lead guitar and sang in his own country and western band for many years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Joy Lynn Van Hoose; grandson, Everette Stephens, III; great-grandson, Dyllon M. Shaver; and eight siblings. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Pat; four children, Sherie Anderson of Fairborn, Kim (Chuck) Grassel of Ravenna, OH, Laurie Shaver of Fairborn, Robert (Brenda) Van Hoose of Findlay, OH. He was a proud grandfather of ten grandchildren, David (Jackie Reynolds) Shaver, Darrell Shaver, Laurie (Jason) Barnes, Mark Shaver, Jr., Lona (Daniel) Hamilton, Richard (Audrey) Van Hoose, Tricia Van Hoose, Brian Anderson, Melissa Anderson, Shannon (Ryan) Johnson; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Martha Reese; and a brother, Lee (Sue) Van Hoose, both of Florida; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends. The family will receive friends on Wednesday March 19, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M., with Masonic service at 7:45 P.M., in the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, where a funeral service will be held on Thursday March 20, 2014 at 10:30 A.M., Pastor Robert Forsberg officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Byron Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to A Special Wish Foundation, 436 Valley St., Dayton, OH 45404.
