BEAVERCREEK — Wilfred Denton Jones, 91, of Beavercreek, formerly of Xenia, passed away, Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at Hospice of Dayton. He was born November 14, 1922, in Xenia, the son of C. Arthur and Amy Long Jones. He is survived by his wife, Louise (Kendig) Jones, sister-in-law, Jane McVey, and by many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a son, Frank A. Jones. His education included Xenia Central High School, University of Dayton, Mississippi State College, The Ohio State University, and the United States Army Air Force Pilot Training. He worked at the Jones Home Market, and WPAFB and served on the AAA Miami Valley Board of Trustees and retired from AAA Miami Valley, as Vice-President of Operations. His AAA career included Executive Vice-President of the Greene County Auto Club, President of the Western Ohio AAA Conference, a trustee and Vice-Pres. of the Ohio AAA Association. He is a member of Kirkmont Presbyterian Church (past trustee), and served as President of church trustees, he was involved in many civic organizations, a charter member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Past President of the Xenia Citizens of Public Schools, Past President of the Xenia High School music parents association, Xenia City Schools Advisory committee, Past President, Xenia Kiwanis Club, Past President, Past Secretary of the Greene County Chapter of the National Foundation for Polio, Past President of the Beavercreek Chamber of Commerce (Outstanding Volunteer Award, 1999), Prestigious E.G. Shaw Award for Distinguished and Outstanding service to community, 2004, Past President of the Beavercreek Ambassador's Club, Beavercreek Postal Committee, Grand Marshal of the 4th of July parade in Beavercreek, Beavercreek Popcorn Festival Committee, Beavercreek Senior Citizens Committee, Honorary Greene County Deputy Sheriff and Ohio State Patrol Auxiliary, Past President of the Greene County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Greene County-Lewis A. Jackson Regional Airport Authority, the Ohio US Route 35 Committee, Greene County Veterans Service Commission, Past-President of First Frontier Inc., (Blue Jacket Drama), Greene County Veterans Service Committee, Past President, Past Commander of Post #95, American Legion, VFW Post #8312 (Beavercreek), Xenia Masonic Lodge #49, F. & A. M. , Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, Past Patron of Aldora Chapter #262, Order of the Eastern Star, Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. He served in the US Army Air Force in World War II in the China-Burma-India theatre, as a pilot and flew 101 trips across the HUMP (Himalayas). He is a life member of the China-Burma-India Hump Pilots Association. He was a member of the Miami Valley Military Affairs Association, Past President. He was active in politics and served as a Republican on the Central and Executive Committees, since 1960. He served eleven years as Executive Committee Chairman and four years as Central Committee Chairman, twelve years on the Greene County Election Board and Ohio Electoral College in 1972. He was appointed Honorary Lt. Governor by Lt. Governor John Brown in 1971. He served four years on the Republican State Central Committee from the Seventh Congressional District. He served as County Chairman for C. William O'Neil for Governor Committee, and Seventh District Campaign Chairman for Clarence J. Brown for Congress. He is listed in Who's Who in American Politics. Services will be held at 10am, Monday, May 5, 2014, at the Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Sunday, at the funeral home, with Masonic services to follow at 8pm. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Xenia. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to
