XENIA — Joseph L. Mowen Sr. "Joe", age 75, of Xenia, passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2014. He was born on December 20, 1938 in Yellow Springs, OH to the late Walter and Mary Louise Mowen. Joe owned and operated J&J Auto Service in Jamestown for well over 20 years and during his retirement he worked as a custodian for Greeneview School District. He often showed his classic cars and had a large variety of collectable model cars. Joe collected trains, birdhouses, and antiques and marveled in spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Joseph L. Mowen, Jr.; wife, Patricia Mowen; and brother, Richard "Dick" Butler. Joe was survived by his loving children, Steve (Pam) Mowen, Eddie Mowen, and Lucy (Chris) Moorman; grandchildren, Ben Minton, Nick (Sarah) Mowen, Ben (Laura) Mowen, Ashley (Paul) Bainbridge, Stephanie (Matt) Prater, Haylee Moorman, Josh Mowen, EJ Mowen, Heather Mowen, Alex Moorman and Elizabeth Mowen; 7 great-grandchildren; brothers, Vaughn "Curly" Hoop and Kenny Kipp; and numerous other extended family members and special friends from Xenia and Jamestown. Family will greet friends from 10am-12pm on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd. Kettering. A Memorial Service will follow at 12pm. Final resting place will be at Valley View Memorial Gardens in Xenia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave, Dayton OH 45420.
