After a long, courageous, and stubborn battle with chronic illness, Patricia "Pat" Mary Rose DeJuneas (Hall) died peacefully at home on December 31, 2016. During her last week, she was surrounded by family, friends, caregivers, and an abundance of love, laughter, prayer and song.
Born on April 18, 1940 in Newark, New Jersey, Pat was longtime resident of Trumbull, Connecticut until she and her loving husband, Jim, moved in 2007 to Matthews, North Carolina. Pat will always be known for her warmth, passion for cards and dominoes, delicious Christmas cookies, and love for her grandchildren. To her children and their friends, she was affectionately known as "The Momma," for she welcomed all with a hug, a smile, and a keen interest in their lives.
Pat and Jim were married for 50 love-filled years, until Jim's death in 2009. Their daughter Laura Frances DeJuneas also preceded them in passing in 1977. She is survived by her children, Jim and his wife Laura, of Raleigh, NC; Tom and his wife Terry, of Charlotte, NC; Patty, of Boston, MA; Lisa and her husband Patrick T. DeJuneas, of Matthews, NC; grandchildren Christopher, Ainsley, Katie, Tommy, and Amy; beloved pets Buddy and Rusty; nine grand-dogs and five grand-cats; sisters Kathy Wooster, of Vero Beach, FL and Carole Utter and her husband Bill, of Barnegat, NJ; nieces Cynthia Blankenship, Kathy Loveless, and Suzanne Longstreet; and grand-nieces and nephews, Ashley, DJ, David, Kevin, Christine, and Andrew.
A wake will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 4 and her funeral at 11:00 a.m. on January 5, 2017, both at Heritage Funeral Home, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Matthews, NC 28104.
