Alva R. Asbury

CAMERON - Mrs. Alva Lee Reed Asbury, 82, of Cameron died Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at Central Carolina Hospital. Mrs. Asbury was born Sept. 2, 1930, in Kanawha County, W.Va., to the late George Hansford Reed and Bertie Hazel King Reed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Delmer Watson Asbury, and by a sister, Wanda Rose Reed. She attended Dunbar High School but graduated from St. Albans High School. She graduated from Mount State Memorial Hospital as a registered nurse. Mrs. Asbury worked for Dr. Rose McClanahan and in several Hospitals in Charleston, W.Va., for 25 years and also worked with the Red Cross Bloodmobile. She moved to North Carolina in 1994. Mrs. Asbury was a member of Hillmon Grove Baptist Church and a member of the Golden Adventurers Senior Citizens Club. Mrs. Asbury is survived by two daughters, Denise Seals and husband, Jesse, of Houston, and Lori Clemenger of Raeford; two grandchildren, Jamie Upton and husband, Sgt. Maj. David Upton, and Jessica Miller and husband, Capt. John Miller, of Sanford; four great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Peyton Thomas and Jeremy and Asher Upton, all of Broadway; a brother, Keith Reed and wife, Tene, of St. Albans, W.Va.; and a sister, Barbara Joplin and husband, John, of Port Orange, Fla. The family will receive friends Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home in Sanford. The funeral will be Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Hillmon Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Wayne O'Quinn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hillmon Grove Baptist Church, 384 Hillmon Grove Road, Cameron, NC 28326.
