FAYETTEVILLE - Thomas H. Lutz, 78, of Fayetteville, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2012. In this one death, a devoted husband, a loving father, a doting grandfather, a proud brother and uncle and a decorated 28-year U.S. Army veteran was lost. Survivors include his wife, Kazuko; daughters, June (Robert) Conaway and Katharine Lutz; grandchildren, Mary Katherine and Thomas Conaway; siblings, Betty Nelson, George Lutz, Dan Lutz, Harold Lutz and Gary Lutz; and many wonderful and devoted extended family members. Tom was born in South Bend, Ind. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ramon and Wilma. Mr. Lutz, a retired sergeant major, always considered it to be an honor to be able to wear the Special Forces Green Beret. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of HealthKeeperz Home and Palliative Care (Lyndell, Millie, Betty, the Rev. Randall and Carolyn). Also thank you to Sullivan Funeral Home & Crematory in Fayetteville for the service arrangements. A brief graveside service will be held Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake. Reception to follow after the service.
