William A. Crowder Obituary
FAYETTEVILLE - Mr. William "Bill" Crowder Sr. was born on October 4, 1942 in Hamlet, NC to John Crowder and Almeta Ellerbe. He departed this life on August 3, 2018 at Highsmith Rainey Hospital in Fayetteville, NC. Upon completion of his education at Monroe Avenue High School in Hamlet, NC, Bill joined the United States Army. He courageously served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He received numerous decorations for his twenty years of service including the Bronze Star for Valor and the Purple Heart. Upon his retirement from the military he worked for the South Carolina Department of Corrections for year and a half and subsequently he was employed by the United States Postal Service. Bill retired with a combined thirty-three years of service with United States Postal Service. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, John Crowder and Almeta Ellerbe, his beloved daughter Angelia Crowder Wilson and brother Charles Crowder. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Alice Marie Crowder of Fayetteville, NC; seven sons, William (Mary) Crowder Jr., Augusta, GA; Daryl (Sharon) Crowder, Harvest, AL; Edward (Veronica) Crowder, Columbia, SC; Bryant Crowder, Tamarac, FL; Henry (Deidre) Leverett, Augusta, GA; Thirum (Tamar) Dawkins, Hamlet, NC; Scott Garrett, Wilkesboro, NC; sister, Edith (Clyde) Williams, Rockville, MD; two aunts, Lillie Brooks, Hamlet, NC and Lillian Hall, Newport News, VA; sister-in-law, Carol Crowder, Atlanta, GA; eighteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Wiseman Chapel with Reverend Sheila Blakley Officiating. He will lie in repose from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
