FAYETTEVILLE - Mrs. Geraldine Roy, 92, a longtime resident of Highland House, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, after a long good life. Mrs. Roy was born in 1919, in Randolph County, W.Va., to the late Ernest Smith and Martha Canfield. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; and daughter, JoAnn Canfield. One of 11 children, Mrs. Roy was the last surviving member of her immediate family. A lifelong resident of Randolph County, Mrs. Roy retired from Davis Memorial Hospital as a dietary supervisor and moved to North Carolina in 1987. She was active in church services provided at Towers West Apartments, where she resided for many years, and at Highland House, where she spent her last years. An avid baseball fan, she attended many games, including Braves and Astros games, among others. She loved to travel and traveled to Europe and across the U.S. with her children. Mrs. Roy is survived by a son, Ernest L. Roy, U.S. Navy retired, and wife Sue of Chesapeake, Va.; two daughters, Patricia Lousie Roy-Jolly of Harker Heights, Texas, and Emma Jean Roy of Fayetteville. Mrs. Roy is survived by eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Roy will be laid to rest next to her husband, John, in a graveside service on Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, in West Virginia. Services entrusted to Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home of Fayetteville, and Maplewood Cemetery of Elkins, W.Va.
