Pine Village - Donald R. Howard, age 70 of Pine Village died at 8:35 p.m. on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at St. Elizabeth East in Lafayette.
Don was born on September 8, 1942 in Fowler. He was the son of Russell J. and Izola (Dowling) Howard. He attended Boswell High School and lived most of his life in Pine Village.
He married Betty Showalter on July 30, 1961 in South Mills, N.C. She survives.
Don was a self-employed truck driver. He served in the US Navy
from 1960-1963, then served in the Army
Reserves and the Navy Reserves. He was a member of the VFW
Post #3318 Attica. Don enjoyed fishing and his family.
Surviving with his wife are: mother, Izola Howard of Earl Park; four children, Ronald Wayne (Patricia) Howard of Lafayette, Tamara (Randy) Zellers of Rensselaer, Connie (Ray) Good of West Lafayette and Brooke (Brad) Wetli of Otterbein; a sister, Alice French of Lafayette; five grandchildren, Cortney (Bill) Barnes of North Judson, Randy (April) Zellers, Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colo, Stephanie (Noah) Curry of Montmorenci, and Aiden Wetli and Hannah Wetli both of Otterbin; three great-grandchildren, Keeton, Bentley, and Swayze Messina of Montmorenci.
Don was preceded in death by his father, sister, Judy Krichbaum, brother, Robert Howard, and grandson, Caleb Wetli.
A graveside service was held February 15 at Pine Village Cemetery with full military honors and Pastor Jeff Allen officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family request that contributions be made in honor of his dog Ben to the Humane Society, 1705 S 2nd St., Lafayette, IN 47905.
