ATTICA - Judith "Judy" Jean (Simpson) VanReed, 72, Attica, passed away at the I.U. Health Arnett Hospital, Lafayette, on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at 3:05 a.m.

Judy was born in Williamsport, on December 15, 1940. She is the daughter of Marjorie Evelyn (Stump) Simpson, of Williamsport and the late Melvin Eugene Simpson. Judith was raised east of Attica, graduating from Attica High School in 1958.
Judy formerly worked as a switch board operator for Harrison Steel Castings Company for 27 years. She retired in the 1980s.
Judy had formerly attended the Riverside Methodist Church. She was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Post #3318; member of Ladies Auxiliary of the Eagles Lodge #2596 and Ladies of the Moose Lodge #23, all of Attica. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed needle point. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Judy was very patriotic and enjoyed making American flags with plastic canvas needlepoint to attach to automobile antennas.
Judy was first married to Wendall Vernon Morgan on Nov. 21, 1959 in Attica. He preceded her in death on Feb. 25, 1976. She married Billy Lee VanReed on Oct. 29, 1971 in Attica. He preceded her in death on Dec. 4, 1984.
Judy leaves behind her daughter, Stacey (Tim) Howard, Attica; her mother, Marjorie E. Simpson, Williamsport; a sister, Leona Kaye Rothrock, Williamsport and a brother, Gerald L. (Lori) Simpson, Antwerp, Ohio; five grandchildren, Bryan (Elizabeth) Morgan, Brianne Morgan, Tashina McCall, Mykaela McCall and Morgan Howard; three great-grandchildren, Abbigail Morgan, Chloe DeLong and Annaleise Morgan; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Melvin E. Simpson; a son, Chris E. Morgan and a brother, James Melvin Simpson.
Funeral services were held at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Nov. 22 with her grandson, Pastor Bryan Morgan officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica.
