LOGANSPORT - John R. Wakeland, 91 of Logansport, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014 in the emergency room at Logansport Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 3, 1923 in Veedersburg, he was the son of Manson A. and Lola M. Sigler Wakeland. He was married to Dorotha Betty Smith Wakeland, who survives.
John proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was retired from Logan Machine where he had worked as a machinist.
He was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church. He was also a former member of the Eagles Aerie No. 323 and the American Legion Post 60. John had the rare ability to imitate bird whistles and enjoyed bringing a smile to people's faces by sharing his talent. Simply put, John loved life.
Surviving are his wife 61 years are three children, John (Linda) Wakeland of Plymouth, Nancy (Doug) Suiter of Burnettsville and Ron (Deb) Wakeland, Fla.; four grandchildren, Eric (Crystal) Wakeland, Rhonda (D.J.) Frost, Jason (Crystal) Suiter and Jessica (Wayne) Miller; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Isabelle; and one brother, Garnet Wakeland.
A funeral service was held April 1, at Fisher Funeral Chapel with Rev. Chuck Compton officiating. Interment, with military honors, followed in the Mount Hope Cemetery.
