NEW RICHMOND - Michael Edward 'Mike' McCord, age 18 of rural New Richmond, died of injuries he sustained in an accident Thursday morning, May 23, 2013 while traveling to school. Mike was born in Fort Wayne, June 4, 1994, his parents Kevin and Shari Lidester McCord survive.

Mike was finishing his junior year at Crawfordsville High School and he had previously attended North Montgomery High School. He was employed as a server at the Crawfordsville Cracker Barrel Restaurant and spent many hours assisting his dad with the care of the Wingate Park baseball fields.
Mike placed the Lord as the focus of his life. He routinely put others first, never knew a stranger and lived his life as an example for others to follow. He was active in the New Richmond Christian Church, Peers Program, Montgomery County PRIDE, Chrysalis Walk to Emmaus for Youth, summer church camp and was a great mentor to his siblings. He was a member of the Crawfordsville High School Football team, in the Show Choir and was active in school plays. Mike was not a quitter and was very goal focused. Mike known as a 'good kid' by all who had the pleasure to know him. In keeping with his commitment of giving, following his death, Mike was a tissue donor, so that in his death he will continue to give.
Surviving are his parents, Kevin and Shari McCord, his twin brother Mitchell William McCord, brother Matthew Joseph McCord and sister Sarah Elizabeth McCord. He is also survived by grandmother Judy Biggs of Arcadia, Uncles: Wally Pennington of Arcadia and Ed Pennington of Cicero and Scott Clifford of Royal Center, Aunts: Peggy Lidester of Crawfordsville and Geri Henderson of Cicero. Also surviving are many cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Billy and Irene Lidester, Wally Pennington, Sr.
Funeral services were held in the Crawfordsville High School Gymnasium on May 27 with Pastor Allen Sparks officiating. Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery near his home. Mike's family strongly encourage, in lieu of flowers, memorials may best be directed to The Mike McCord Scholarship Fund. Envelopes will be available at the services or may be mailed to the funeral home.
