John Edwin "Ed" Hecock

John Edwin (Ed) Hecock, 71, passed away peacefully in New Port Richey, Fla., on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, after a long battle with cancer. Ed was born in Detroit, Mich., on Dec. 30, 1942, to Donald and Kathryn (Engebretson) Hecock. He married Bonnie Lowrie on July 1, 1967, and she survives.

Ed graduated from Cooley High School in Detroit, Mich., and Beloit College in Beloit, Wisc. He was an entrepreneur throughout his life, and owned E &J DeMark in Wauseon. He served on the Wauseon Planning Commission for many years. Over the years he enjoyed swimming, sailing and running, and was a member of the Elks and the church choir. After raising his family in Wauseon, he and Bonnie retired to New Port Richey, Fla. In retirement, he was active with the Gulf Harbors Yacht Club.

He was the younger brother to Richard (Georgia) Hecock of Detroit Lakes, Minn.

Also surviving are two children, Betsy (Jeff) Wenger of Wauseon and Dave (Bonnie Hiltz) Hecock of Toronto, Calif.; andhis grandchildren, Alex, Mia, Carson, Mackenzie, and Hannah.

There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Wauseon.

The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the church. Lunch will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to First Christian Church.
