Robert E. Gaff, 84, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014, in Cottonwood, Ariz. He was born in Stryker on Aug. 12, 1929, to the late Inez (Sherman) and Theodore Gaff. He married Alberta Gaff in 1973, and she preceded him in death in 2006.

Robert enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War 1951-52, then transferred to the Army Reserve for five years. He was a heavy equipment operator most of his life. He was past commander of American Legion Post 265, a life member of the American Legion, a 32nd degree Mason, a 47-year member of Elks USA, a 51-year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 18, and a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 181. In his spare time he loved gardening, playing cards, and spending time with family. He will be sadly missed by all.

He is survived by a son, Robert (Denise) Gaff; a daughter, Debra (Kenneth) Leininger; six grandchildren, Kelli Allan, Erin, Brittany, and TR Gaff and Cara and Gregg (Autumn Hardin) Leininger; six great-grandchildren, Cody and Brogan Allan, Jayda and Bryson Contreras, Phoenix Leininger, and August Jennings; and two sisters, Bernadine Waldfogle and Donnabell Stahl.

He was also preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Ann, and his brother, Denver.

Graveside funeral services will be private at Wauseon Union Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.
