In 1947 she and her husband moved to Horicon where they operated "Schmidt's Meat Market". In 1953 she and her family moved to Markesan where they operated "Schmidt's Red Bell Market". She volunteered at the Bethesda Thrift Shop in Horicon for over 30 years as well as the Country Fair Rummage Sale, at the Dodge County Fair Grounds in September every year.
Charlotte was a member of Pella Lutheran Church and the Ladies club, attended Bible classes and was a former Choir member. She was also a life time member of American Legion Auxiliary Post of Markesan. Many people may remember her as an election poll worker for the city of Waupun. She loved to go to the various stores in Waupun and just visit with everyone she met. Charlotte enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grand-daughters and her great-grandsons.
