Kathryn M. "Mutzie" Kraus
Kathryn "Mutzie" Kraus, age 84, of Kiel, WI, died Wednesday morning, May 1, 2013, at St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan.
She was born September 10, 1928, in Kiel, daughter of the late Carl & Theresa Halfmann and step-father, Albert Krupp. On May 12, 1948, she married Melvin Kraus at St. Ann's Catholic Church in St. Anna. Melvin preceded her in death on May 7, 2011.
Mutzie and Melvin farmed in the Town of Russell for many years. She was a member of the St. Anna church choir for seventy-eight years; Christian Mothers and worship committee, various area-bowling leagues and card clubs, a seamstress with the Camo Quilt Project and a Kiel middle school lunch server.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mutzie is survived by her children Steven Kraus of Beloit; Ann (Jim) Wusterbarth of New Holstein; Sue (Tom) Hoefler of Kiel; Tom (Mary) Kraus of Kiel; Peter (Mindy) Kraus of Kiel; Mary (Chuck) Cash of Kiel; and Patti (Al) Steffes of St. Cloud; 21 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lola Rudd of Sheboygan, sister-in-laws: Janet Kraus of Elkhart Lake, Donna Halfmann of Eau Claire, and Annabel Kraus of Wausau, brother-in-law: Walter Kraus of Elkhart Lake and numerous nieces and nephews. Mutzie was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Kari Kraus, and great-grandson, Zachary Kraus; brother Delmar Halfmann, step-sister, Caroline Krupp, brothers-in laws: Joe Krupp, Jerome and Eugene Kraus, Cliff Chapmann, Harry Stutts, Clark Rudd, and Larry Koenig; sisters-in-law Ruth Kraus, Raymonda Chapmann-Stutts; and Sydonia Koenig. A funeral mass for Mutzie will be held Saturday, May 4, at 1:30pm at St. Ann Catholic Church, St. Anna, with the Rev. Loren Nys, SDS, Rev. Harry Berryman, Fr. Ron Smith, and Parish Director Joe Zenk officiating. Friends may call at the church Saturday from 9:00am to 1:00pm. Private family burial rites will be in the church cemetery immediately following the service.
