Attorney Kenneth J. Sippel
Attorney Kenneth J. Sippel, of Mt. Calvary, died Saturday, November 24, 2012, in the Villa Loretto Nursing Home in Mt. Calvary. He was born June, 5, 1927, in Mt Calvary. He married Lucille Schrage on Oct. 21, 1950. She died on March 7, 1999, in Puerto Vallarta Mexico while on vacation.
Ken graduated from Goodrich High School in 1944. He joined the U.S. Army
in 1945 and served at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Aberdeen, Maryland. He then attended St. Norbert College, graduating in 1949. He worked at the Kohler Company for two years before going to Marquette Law School, where he graduated in 1954.
He then opened up a law practice in Mt. Calvary as a sole practitioner until 1966 when he and George Laird formed a partnership with offices in Mt. Calvary and Fond du Lac. The firm later became Laird, Sippel and Herrick. In 1980 he returned to sole practice in Mt. Calvary, retiring in 1994.
Ken believed in giving back to his community. He volunteered with the Fond du Lac County Resolution Center for several years. He created, organized and served as director of the consolidated parochial elementary school system in the area around his home known in Wisconsin as the Holy Land - an administrative and cost-saving idea that was to be copied around the country. He also was on the New Holstein School Board, serving the last years as president.
Ken loved the outdoors, particularly spending each deer hunting season with family and friends at "The Shack" in the Sheboygan County marsh.
He is survived by his friend Robbie Bowes; five children: Ray of rural Malone; Mare (Paul) of Eugene, Oregon; Carol of Madison; Ken II (Pat) of St Peter; Kurt (Susan) of Madison; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife "Lu" and one son, Richard.
Ken will be cremated. A reception for friends and family will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2012, beginning at 9:30 am followed by a Memorial Service at 11:30 am at St. Isidore Parish Holy Cross Church, 308 County Road W in Mt Calvary WI.
