The former Melanie Sybil Gober was born on June 5, 1980, in Dover, Delaware, to Scott and Diana (Barton) Gober. On March 26, 2005, she was united in marriage with Dean Decker at New Testament Baptist Church in Columbus. Mel enjoyed scrapbooking, reading, and volleyball but her greatest enjoyment was being a loving wife and mother. Mackenzie was born shortly before Mel's diagnosis with cancer and every day that she was able to spend loving, supporting, and raising her daughter was a blessing. Through all of the ups and downs of this battle, Melanie never lost sight of her faith and she was so grateful for all the prayers that came from friends and family, as well as all of the cyber support she had received and the support from the community. She prayed for time and every second mattered to Mel.
Survivors are her husband, Dean and daughter, Mackenzie; parents, Scott and Diana Gober; sister, Angela (Rodney) Love; brothers, Thomas Gober and Blake Gober; parents-in-law, Phil and Vicki Decker; sister-in-law, Kari (Mike) Potter; brother-in-law, Dave Decker; several other relatives and many friends.
If desired, memorials may be made to the family and will go towards an educational fund that will be established for Mackenzie.

I didn't know Melanie well while I was in school with her, but I know she always had a smile. It was a blessing to see her grow through her struggle. I've recently been writing on my blog about grief if you are up to reading it: morethanastatisticforhim.blogspot.com Will be praying for Kenzie, Dean, and other family members in the days ahead.

I had the privilege of being Melanie's roommate during our sophomore year of college. She made us laugh...a lot! She was spunky, sassy, and fun to be around. She worked hard to pay her school bill, and was friendly to each and every person she served in the dining hall. She was simply put... a joy to be around. I know that death stings on this end, but I pray that this guest book and all the FB comments are an encouragement to those that are hurting the most at this time. They will be lasting memories of tribute for her beloved daughter to read someday over and over. Kenzie will grow up to be just as beautiful as her mom inside and out because she had such a good example in her life. Keep turning your eyes upon Jesus. He will sustain you all.
