Virginia R. "Jinny" Baker, 78 passed away peacefully on April 19, 2013 after a two month battle with lung and brain cancer. Jinny spent her last months at her winter home in Scottsdale, Arizona surrounded by her family.
A lifelong Fond du Lac resident, Jinny was born on April 12, 1935 to Roman and Susan Friedel. She attended St. Mary's Grade School and graduated with honors from Fond du Lac Senior High School in 1953. Jinny was vivacious and social, and relished the opportunity to attend reunions with classmates from both schools. She met her husband and best friend, Tom, while attending high school. They began dating shortly after graduation.
Jinny worked at the Social Security Administration as a legal secretary while Tom was away at college. On June 25, 1955, Jinny and Tom were married at St Mary's Catholic Church. Their first child, Ann was born in May of 1956. From then on, Jinny began her lifelong passion of being a mother.
Jinny enjoyed traveling the world, golfing, playing bridge, and dining with friends and family. Recently, Jinny and Tom have been spending their winters in Scottsdale, Arizona, where she often got together with old friends and quickly made new ones.
Jinny will be dearly missed by her loved ones, including her husband, 5 children and 15 grandchildren. Surviving is her husband of 57 years, Tom, her brother, Leo (Glorian) Friedel, of Milwaukee; her daughter Ann Wills of San Diego, and her children Danny (Stefanie) and Cheri (Ian); Tom J. (Cindy) of Fond du Lac, and their children, Joe, Laura Doeckel (Robert), and Sara; Dave (Cindy) of Seattle, and their children Max, Julie and Kevin; Bob (Gina) and their children Alex, Ben, Jack and Calvin; and Amy Dimberio (Joey) of Chicago, and their children Abby, Kate and Thomas.
Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday April 29, 2013 at Holy Family Parish Church, 271 Fourth Street Way, Fond du Lac. Rev. Charles Wester will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Fond du Lac. In lieu of visitation a celebration of her life and luncheon will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
