Bernice S. Kohlmann
Bernice S. Kohlmann, 73, of Kiel, died Tuesday afternoon, July 16, 2013 at St. Nicholas Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was the former Bernice S. Rach, born May 9, 1940 in Kiel, daughter of the late Hugo & Minnie (Nadler) Rach.
She was a Kiel High School graduate.
On October 29, 1960, she married Erne Kohlmann at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Kiel. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2010 at the Osthoff.
Bernice previously had been employed as a school crossing guard, worked at the former Leverenz Shoe Factory, New Holstein and AA Laun Furniture Co., Kiel until her retirement. Following her husband's stroke, Bernice selflessly dedicated her life to taking care of him.
She was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Kiel and the Christian Women. She also volunteered at the Kiel Senior Center.
Bernice enjoyed baking, especially chocolate chip cookies for her grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time with her sisters, friends and neighbors.
Survivors include her husband Erne, a resident of Field of Dreams Assisted Living, Kiel, five children; Jeff Kohlmann, McFarland, WI, Kathy (Scott) Aurand, Flower Mound, TX, Tom (Sharon) Kohlmann, McFarland, WI, Laurie (George) Hodgson, Franklin, WI and Mike (Lisa) Kohlmann, Madison, WI. She is further survived by three grandchildren; Taylor & Bryce Kohlmann, Olivia Hodgson, brothers & sisters; Arlene (Harold) Schuessler, Ron Rach, Donna (Ralph) Diefenthaler, Marge Sass, Rosie (Ambrose) Stephanie, Marv (Chris) Rach, Jerry Rach and in-laws, Ron (Annette) Kohlmann and Fr. Vernon Kohlmann.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Charlie Rach, and two sisters-in-law, Delores Rach & Yvonne Rach.
The funeral Mass for Bernice will be celebrated at 3:30 pm, Friday, July 19, 2013 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 413 Fremont St., Kiel with Fr. Vernon Kohlmann and Fr. Larry Abler officiating.
Family and friends may call at the Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, 815 6th St., Kiel on Friday from 12:30 pm until 3:00 pm when brief family rites will be held.
Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the America
& Field of Dreams Assisted Living.
Bernice's family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Field of Dreams, as well as the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Nicholas Hospital for the wonderful care she received.
