David Kern Obituary

Kern, David L.

David L. Kern, 60, of Fond du lac, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, December 31, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer.

A memorial service for Dave will take place on Friday, January 4, at 4 o'clock p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mayville with the Rev. Barry Hoerz officiating. A visitation will take place on Friday, January 4, from 1 o'clock p.m. until the time of the service at 4 p.m. at the church. A dinner will follow the service at the Mayville Gun Club.

Dave was born on July 21, 1952, in Waukesha and was the only child of Henry and Jane (Walker) Kern. Dave grew up in Mayville and was a graduate of the Mayville High School class of 1970. On May 22, 1982, he married the love of his life, Sheryl "Putz" Collien. Together they raised their two children, Jason (Sally) Milz and Jaime (Jesse) Umentum. His five grandchildren, Rachael, Jordan, Peyton, Caden and Mason, were the joy of his life, along with his beloved and award-winning British black lab, Maddy.

Dave spent the last 40 years employed by Mayville Engineering Company as their reloader division Sales/Customer Service Manager. MEC was not only Dave's job but his passion. He was actively involved in numerous outdoors' organizations including Ducks Unlimited, Mayville Gun Club, Horicon Marsh Hunting Retriever Club and the WAFTC. Dave also enjoyed hunting Rush Lake with his dog, Maddy and his good friends. Dave was also actively involved in the community serving on the boards of the Mayville High Booster Club, where he was a Katie Award recipient, Mayville Golf Club, Mayville Chamber of Commerce, and the Friends of the Horicon Marsh. Dave was also an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Mayville.

Dave is survived by his wife, Sheryl; his children, Jason (Sally) Milz and Jaime (Jesse) Umentum; his five grandchildren, Rachael, Jordan, Peyton, Caden, and Mason; his parents, Henry and Jane Kern; his parents- in-law, Edward and Lucille Collien. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Memorials may be directed to Mayville Gun Club or Horicon Marsh Hunting Retriever Club.
