Gertrude M. Engels, 91, of Van Dyne, went to her Heavenly home on Mon. Aug. 8, 2011, at Hospice Home of Hope, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Fond du Lac on April 28, 1920, the daughter of the late William and Mary Biske Hackbarth.
On May 6, 1950, she married Wendell L, Engels at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dundee. They shared 61 wonderful years together.
Gertrude loved her family, especially the little ones who were the apple of her eye.
She loved to shop and do crossword puzzles.
Survivors include her daughters Nadine Matthies of Fond du Lac, and Nancy(special friend Rick) Bindert of Fond du Lac; her sons, Russell of Van Dyne, and Rodney (Diane) of Phoenix, Ariz., five grandchildren: Melissa and Adam Bindert, Jessica Johnson, and Janice and Jason Engels; three great-grandchildren: Evan Bindert, Chloe Engels and Anthony Mata; three brothers: Lester (Rose) Hackbarth of Fond du Lac, George Hackbarth of Fond du Lac and Bill Hackbarth of Armstrong; three sisters: Janet (Dave) Flitter of Campbellsport, Mary (Ivan) Vorderbruggen of West Bend and Dorothy (Leander) Lefeber; a sister-in-law, Viola Hackbarth of Fond du Lac; a brother-in-law, Roger Lefeber of Campbellsport; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded by her parents; one brother, Elmer Hackbarth; and one sister, Joyce Lefeber.
SERVICES: A Time of Gathering will be held on Friday, Aug. 12, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Twohig Funeral Home, 305 Fond du Lac Ave. in Fond du Lac.
Burial will be on Saturday, Aug. 13, at 10 a.m. at Union Cemetery in Campbellsport.
Memorials may be directed to the Hospice Home of Hope.
