Weidner, John Erwin

John Erwin Weidner, age 82, of Hartford, went peacefully into the arms of his Lord, with his children by his side on January 1, 2013. Referred to as "Gentleman John" by some of his co-workers at Mercury, he will be deeply missed. His beautiful smile and his great sense of humor will always be remembered.

John was born on June 27, 1930, the son of John and Helen Weidner in Chicago, IL. He was a 1950 graduate of Hartford Union High School. He was drafted into the Army and was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas after high school. On December 29, 1951, he married Barbara Ann Turnbull in Hartford, WI.

John had retired from Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac, where he worked as a Design Engineer. He worked in the marine industry for many years at Chrysler Marine, and US Marine in Hartford. He also worked a short time at Harley Davidson. John loved traveling, fishing, and spending vacations in the Wisconsin Northwood's. John mostly treasured the time spent with his family.

John is survived by his son, David (Patsy Valalik) of Hartford; daughter, Gayle (Larry) O'Grady of Slinger; daughter, Debra (George) Idzikowski of Lomira; son, Robert of Lomira; son, Thomas (Carol Baumgartner) of Hartford; grandchildren, Patrick O'Grady, Shana (Dan) Caturano, Emily (Bill) Zubella, Jennifer (Nick) Wirkus, Christopher Weidner, and Kaitlin Weidner; great-grandchildren, Karly and Kieran O'Grady, Ben Wirkus, and baby Declan Caturano who will be born in March; a brother, Dan (Sandy) Weidner; a brother-in-law, Steve Lockwood, and nieces, nephews, other relatives, many friends, and special neighbors Marilyn, Ed & Roxie, and Joe & Jamie. He will also be missed by special grandpups, Chester and Reggie.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara in 1991; and two sisters, Charlotte and Elaine.

Funeral Services for John will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church, 738 Monroe Street, Hartford, with Rev. Paul Johnsen officiating. Visitation will be at church on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Interment will follow the service at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hartford.

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac for their outstanding care during his last days.
