Lawrence W. Paul, 82, of 410 Carroll St. Beaver Dam, WI, was received into his Savior's arms on Wednesday, February 20, 2013.
Lawrence was born December 10, 1930, to William and Louise (nee Grahn) in the Township of Fox Lake, WI. He was baptized and confirmed at the County Line Lutheran Church, Township of Fox Lake. He married Jeannine R. Pollesch on October 19, 1952, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Fox Lake.
Lawrence proudly served his country seeing combat duty with the 7th Division in the Korean War during the invasion of Inchon Harbor. Lawrence was also a survivor of the Frozen Chosin Reservoir battle. Lawrence was a scout working behind enemy lines; he received five battle stars and numerous other awards. Lawrence retired from military service after 24 years in the U.S. Army. He served in the 32nd Division of the Wisconsin National Guard and the 84th Division of Army Reserves. He retired with the rank of SGT Major.
Lawrence served as Postmaster in Fox Lake for 35 years. He served as Justice of the Peace and as an Alderman in the Town of Fox Lake. Lawrence was a member of the American Legion Post #521 in Fox Lake, where he served as Post Adjutant and Service Officer. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Post 9510 of Randolph. Lawrence was a member of the National Association of Postmasters for 62 years.
Lawrence was a past member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Fox Lake, where he held a number of positions. He is a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church of Beaver Dam, where he tutored in the school for a number of years. Lawrence's strong faith in Jesus Christ kept him throughout his life.
Lawrence was active in sports and umpired ball games for 25 years in different leagues. He stayed active in different horseshoe leagues for a number of years.
Lawrence is survived by his wife, Jeannine; his five children, Terry (Corrine) Paul of Milwaukee; Kim (Charles) Papenfuss of Pewaukee; Steven (Diane) Paul of Lamartine, WI; Mark (Marcia) Paul of Beaver Dam; and Neal (Linda) Paul of Malone, WI; 14 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his brother, Ernest (Catherine) of Beaver Dam, WI; brothers and sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 25, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, 300 West St, Beaver Dam with the Rev. Philip Heyer officiating. Visitation is from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Koepsell Funeral Home, N7199 N. Crystal Lake Rd., Beaver Dam on Sunday, February 24, and also from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Monday at the church. Interment will be held at Riverside Memorial Park in Fox Lake with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post #521 of Fox Lake.
The family thanks all who kept Lawrence in their prayers. Special thanks to Patty, Jessica, Julie, Trixie and the staff at Hillside Home Care and Hospice for their gentle care and rousing games of Yahtzee. Also, a special thank you is extended to Pastors Heyer and Stratman.
