Merlin N. "Merle" Plier, of N8161 Meadow Drive, Fond du Lac, died Saturday, November 10, 2012, at home.
He was born April 10, 1936, in Port Washington, a son of Sylvester and Marcella Parlow Plier.
Merlin was united in marriage with his soul mate, Effie I. Bintzler on November 12, 1955, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Port Washington.
He served with the 32nd Aviation Company of the U.S. Army National Guard from 1954 to 1962.
Merle was employed with Kiekhaefer Marine in Cedarburg in 1955 as a machinist, moving to Fond du Lac in 1979, where he continued with Mercury Marine until his retirement in 2000.
He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Holy Family Parish.
Merle enjoyed cars, bicycling, spending time at Lizzie's Acres near Crivitz, and was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his loving wife, Effie; two daughters, Christine (Matt) Faldet, Saukville; Linda (John) Lepien, Fond du Lac; a son, Steven (Julie) Plier, Fredonia; five grandchildren: Ashley Plier, Trevor and Bridget Faldet, Jacob and Andrew Lepien; one great-grandson, Trey Zeien; his brother, Donald; sister, Nancy (Norbert) Ansay; brother, Franklin (Kathy); brother, Sylvester (Lynn); aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Preceding Merle in death are his parents, stepfather, Adolph Witte, and a sister-in-law, Adie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at 6 p.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, N8079 Church Road, St. Peter.
The family will greet friends and relatives from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the church.
Cremation will take place, with burial to follow at a later date.
Due to the wonderful care Merle received from Hospice Home Care, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Agnesian Foundation Office.
Mach Funeral Chapel & crematory is serving the family.
