Baer, Peggy Evelyn

Peggy Evelyn Baer, age 81, of New Holstein died Monday, December 3, 2012, at the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton

Peggy Evelyn Baer was born October 1st, 1931 to William and Emma Martin. She was the 6th of 9 children, born and raised in Ely, England - a beautiful city sitting in the middle of the fens about 80 miles NE of London. It's known for its gothic cathedral rising up to the sky and seen from miles away. She was very proud of her city and its cathedral and would always say that when she caught sight of it she knew that she was home. She is preceded in death by her sisters Violet, Cissy, Doris and Rosie and survived by her sisters and brothers Jesse, Bob, Shirley and Eric.

Peggy met her future husband James Baer while he was stationed in the army overseas. They began to date and soon fell in love. His service in England came to an end and he returned to his home state of Wisconsin vowing to send Peggy the money to join him there in marriage. She agreed, said goodbye and thought they would never meet again. When James held true to his promise she was faced with the monumental decision of staying with everything and everybody that she knew and loved or traveling from the UK to the middle of the U.S. and starting over. She chose the latter and in June of 1957 James and Peggy were married.

They raised three sons, Steven, Scott and Daniel. They bought their home in New Holstein in the late 60's which remains in the family today. Both worked at Tecumseh small engines factory and formed friendships that lasted a lifetime. Peggy remained there till retirement. She is also survived by two grandchildren Blake and Brittany by their son Scott and his first wife Maggie, all of which currently reside in England while Steve remained in New Holstein and Daniel moved to California.

In 1984 tragedy struck when James was taken from Peggy by a heart attack at the young age of 49. She remained single for the rest of her life declaring that she could never see herself with another man.

Some of her passions included bowling, travel, country music, scratch tickets (which she won a cool $50,000 once), slot machines and her pet cats. She was a kind and simple woman whose eyes would become tiny little slits when she laughed so hard she could barely stand. She never forgot a birthday and was extremely proud of her wall of Christmas cards every holiday season. She was loved by many and will be sorely missed by all that she came in contact with.

Funeral Services will be held at 5:00 PM on Friday, December 7, 2012 at the Sippel Funeral Home 2618 Altona Avenue in New Holstein. Burial will be in the Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in New Holstein.
