Schmitz, Wilfred W.

Wilfred W. Schmitz, 91, of Fond du Lac, formerly of Mount Calvary, died Monday, September 10, 2012, at the Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac.

He was born November 22, 1920, in the Town of Marshfield near St. Joe, to the late Anton and Helena (Gerhertz) Schmitz. Wilfred served in the Army during World War II.

On April 12, 1947, he married the former Alice Schaub at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mount Calvary. Alice preceded him in death on August 27, 1999.

Wilfred and his wife, Alice owned and operated the Community Electronics & Furniture Stores in St. Cloud and Mount Calvary. In addition, Wilfred worked at Tecumseh Engine Products in New Holstein.

He was a member of St. Isidore Parish, the St. Cloud American Legion Harvey Blonigen Post 478, where he served as past Post Commander, and was a member of the Catholic Knights.

Survivors include his six children, Thomas E. (Lynda) Schmitz of Mount Calvary; Patricia B. Sara of Bayside, WI; Phyllis Freund of Orlando, FL; Margaret (Kevin) Shea of Madison; William (Lori) Schmitz of Medford; and Anthony (Minda) Schmitz of Kiel; nine grandchildren, Nikki, Michael, Caitryn, Simon, Sam, Chris, Jasmine, Austin, and Allie; one great-grandchild, Jada; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Schmitz, Delphine Schmitz, and Margaret Schmitz.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Alice; five brothers, Edgar (Marie) Schmitz, Clarence (Josephine) Schmitz, Elmer Schmitz, Sylvester Schmitz, and Ernest Schmitz; and three sisters, Romelda (Ulrich) Schmidlkofer, Esther (Christ) Bonlander, and Martina (Lester) Fenske.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon on Thursday, September 13, 2012, at St. Isidore Parish St. Joseph Church W620 County Road G St. Cloud "St. Joe". Rev. Gary Wegner OFM Cap. and Rev. Michael Shea will concelebrate. Entombment will be at the Shrine of Rest Chapel Mausoleum at Ledgeview Memorial Park Cemetery in Fond du Lac.

Military Rites conducted by the St. Cloud American Legion Harvey Blonigen Post 478 will take place at the church following the Mass.

Family and friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home, 1311 Thorp Street in St. Cloud, on Thursday morning from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. with brief family rites will be held.

A Memorial Fund will be established in his name.
