Michels (Riegert), Alice E.

Alice E. Michels, 88, of 1047 Blue Cottage Lane, #6, Fond du Lac, died June 29, 2014 at Hospice Home of Hope, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on July 25, 1925 in the town of Eden to James and Estelle (Stack) O'Brien. She married Arlyn F. Michels on Aug. 26, 1947, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Eden. She was preceded in death by her husband Arlyn on June 30, 1990. She married Norbert L. Riegert of Milwaukee on December 27, 1993.

She was a 1943 graduate of St. Mary's Springs Academy. She worked at O'Briens Store. She was a member of Holy Family Parish - St. Patrick's Church, was a past president of the St. Patrick's Altar and Rosary Society, a member of the church council, a church kitchen chairman and a Girl Scout leader.

Survivors include her husband Norbert; two daughters, Mary Gellings and Kathy Michels (Michael Blakeslee) of Fond du Lac; one son, Steven Michels (Marsha) of Fond du Lac; eight grandchildren, Linda Uselmann (David) of Fond du Lac, Jason Gellings (Melissa) of Appleton, Sean Smith (Marissa) of Fond du Lac, Kimberly Dorr (Richard) and Katie Michels of Madison, Nicholas Michels and Tyler and Jordan Blakeslee, all of Fond du Lac; eight great-¬grandchildren, Johnathan, Joshua and Shalyn Uselmann, Alexander and Alicia Gellings, and Vivia, Ryland and Brielle Smith; one sister, Sr. Michaela O'Brien, CSA of Fond du Lac; two brothers, Patrick O'Brien (Marilyn) and James O'Brien (Helen); and one brother-in-law, Wilbert Gellings, all of Eden.

She is also survived by 10 step-children and their spouses: Mary Riegert (Dick Fischer), John Riegert (Carole), Ann Riegert Dudley (the late Brian Dudley), Robert Riegert (Tracy), Thomas Riegert (Margie), Michael Riegert (Angie), James Riegert (Eileen), Peggy Riegert (Dennis Laughren), Cathy Riegert, Bridget Riegert (Art Scheller); 25 step-grandchildren and six step-great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her husband Arlyn, her infant son, John, her parents, her brother Tom O'Brien and his wife Coletta, her sister Florence Flood and her husband Frank, and her sister Helen Gellings.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1 at Zacherl Funeral Home, Fond du Lac, where a parish vigil service will be held at 4:00 to 4:15 p.m. Visitation will also be held from 10 to 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2 at Holy Family Parish, 271 Fourth Street Way, Fond du Lac, followed by a mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Rev. Ryan Pruess will officiate, with Rev. Edward Sippel and Rev. Michael Shea concelebrating. Entombment will be in the Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Holy Family Parish, St. Mary's Springs Academy or Hospice Home of Hope.
