Simon, Sister Roseann, CSA
Sister Roseann (formerly Sister Ambrose) Simon, CSA, 84, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at St. Agnes Convent where she resided since 2002.
Roseann was born on Dec. 17, 1926, in St. Kilian, Wis.
Her parents were the late Frank and Margaret Schrauth Simon of St. Kilian.
She was the youngest child of 10 born to this farming family in rural Wisconsin.
Roseann received her grade school education at St. Kilian Elementary School. For three years she attended St. Mary's Springs Academy, graduating in 1946.
She attributed her religious vocation to her parents' prayers and to their living of their Catholic faith and especially their daily attendance at Mass.
She entered the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes in 1946, and made profession of first vows in 1949 as Sister Ambrose.
Having earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Marian College in Fond du Lac, and a Master of Science degree in education from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, Pa., she taught in elementary schools in Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. She also served as principal in several elementary schools from 1967 to 1984. After completing 43 years in teaching, she served as Curriculum Library Coordinator, and later as a library volunteer, at Marian College from 1992 to 2001, sharing with student teachers her experience as an educator.
After Vatican II, Sister returned to her baptismal name and was known as Sister Roseann.
In her work she was precise and organized; with others she was witty, cheerful, gracious and generous. She enjoyed visiting relatives, picnicking at Lakeside Park, reading, and sewing. She was a prayerful person and liked to read the latest spiritual books.
She is survived by one brother, Father Ambrose Simon, OFM Cap, of Kaukauna, Wis., and also nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and the Sisters of St. Agnes with whom she lived, prayed, and ministered.
Preceding her in death were her parents; five brothers: Anthony who died as a child, Joseph, Andrew, Bernard, and Conrad; and three sisters: Odilia Simon, Sister Angelica Simon, CSA, and Sister Thecla Simon, CSA.
