Joan Elizabeth Lauby of Appleton passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at home with her husband in Appleton, WI following a 9 month battle with cancer.

Joan was born on January 17, 1958 in Fond du Lac and raised in Johnsburg, Wisconsin. Joan was the daughter of William J. and Delia E. Pauly Lauby. Joan graduated from St. Mary's Spring High School in 1976 and from the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh in December, 1980 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and a minor in music. Joan married John P. Dais on September 6, 1982.

Joan was a talented professional musician throughout her life. She played the church organ in Johnsburg, and was the lead singer and keyboard player with popular bands throughout the Fox Valley for more than 30 years. She also performed in various community theater groups.

Joan was employed by the Oshkosh Housing Authority and worked in various aspects of social work for 25 years. Joan loved classic films, the Arts and all genres of music. She donated more than10 gallons of blood over her lifetime.

Joan possessed a quick wit and a sense of humor that she retained through to the end of her life. Joan loved her life with her husband, John, their 4 golden retrievers, and their vegetable and flower gardens. Joan will be dearly missed by her husband John, her family, co-workers, colleagues and many friends and neighbors. She touched the lives of many.

Joan is survived by her husband John, one sister, Mary Lauby of Salem, MA, two brothers, Gerald (Janet) of Fond du Lac, and Donald (Carol) of West Bend, mother-in-law and step father-in-law, Marilyn and Bill Kielmann, brother-in-law, James (Michell), sister-in-law Mary Dais, sister-in-law Patricia Dais, nieces Carlene Jenkins, Tricia Maze and nephews Joseph Lauby, Tomas Roa-Lauby, Matthew Lauby and Samuel Roa-Lauby.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents William J. Lauby and Delia E. Pauly Lauby, one brother Joseph, her father-in-law John T. Dais, and one brother-in-law Mark R. Dais.

A memorial service will be at 11:30 AM on Saturday July 28, 2012 at the VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, with Deacon Jeff Hofacker officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Joan's name.

Joan's family would like to give a special thank you to the kind and generous staffs of the Siekman Center, 7th floor oncology ward at Appleton Medical Center, and the Hospice staff at ThedaCare at Home, who did everything possible to keep Joan comfortable in her battle with cancer and to support John. Her family has appreciated all of the support, kindness and prayers throughout this period of Joan's illness and untimely death.
