Mary Brickle Obituary

Brickle, Mary Ann

Sadly our mother Mary Ann Brickle, 81, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 29, 2012 at her home. Mary Ann was born on October 29, 1931 to Henry and Leona (Braun) Shea of Armstrong, WI.

Mary Ann was a graduate of St. Mary's Springs Academy in 1949. On November 6, 1950 she was married to James A Brickle at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Armstrong.

Mary Ann was an active member of the Genealogical Society where she proved herself to be a Daughter of the American Revolution and it led her to Ireland and Germany while researching the family history. She was very proud of her published genealogy book, Relatively Speaking, on the Shea and Braun families.

Mary Ann was involved with the former Fond du Lac Shamrock Club and was Irish Person of the Year in 1990, a recognition that she was very proud to receive.

In her leisure time she enjoyed sewing, knitting, reading, all Wisconsin sports, especially attending Brewer's baseball games with her son Kyle and watching her beloved Green Bay Packers.

Mary Ann served proudly as Fond du Lac County Register of Deeds for eighteen years and retired in 2001. She coveted a good political discussion. She was passionate about protecting the services and programs that assist those in need, older adults and the rights of women. Most of all she loved being a mother enjoying family trips and dance recitals.

She taught her children the values of good citizenship, service, a strong work ethic and she provided an inspiration on how to live a good, full life. For those who knew her, they will miss that twinkle in her eye, her quick wit and kind ways. The memories of Mary Ann are gifts that her family and friends will carry with them always.

She is survived by her children, Michael S. (Judy) Brickle, Brian J. Brickle, Colleen M (Dennis Cummings) Brickle, Mona A. (Jerry) Tennessen, Sheila B. (Dennis) Seefeld, Maureen E. Brickle and Kyle P. Brickle; one sister, Catherine (Roy) McCormick and one brother, Bill (Lisa) Shea; eight grandchildren; and many relatives and lifelong friends; her pets, Shea and Smokey.

Mary Ann is preceded in death by James A. Brickle, one sister Helen and brother-in-law Robert Landreman.

Visitation: Her family will receive relatives and friends at the Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division St., Fond du Lac, on Friday, November 2, 2012 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM. There is also visitation at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 9:00 until 10:30 AM.

Services: At 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 3, 2012, A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Holy Family Church, 271 Fourth Street Way, Fond du Lac. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Fond du Lac.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Brickle Family with donations going to the Sarnelli Mission House in Thailand.

Sheila, Dennis, and Maureen - My sincerest sympathy to you and the family. Mary was so kind and helpful to Bobby and me in securing a Federal Land Patent on his Long Lake property. She made it all seem so easy. There are no words to ease the pain. She was a beautiful woman inside and out. She will be greatly and sadly missed.

Willie and Evelyn Hoare (Athenry Ireland)send our deepest sympathy to the Brickle Family.
It was a great shock to us both when we heard the sad news.
We got to know Mary in September 2008 when she was on a tour of Ireland and discovered that she had an great interest in tracing the Irish side of her family. ( the O'Shea,s from Kerry.) At her invitation we went to Fon du Lac in July 2009.Since then we have kept up contact with Mary and shared information of interest to us both. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Mary was one of my mentors in genealogy. I was a teenager sitting in there and she encouraged my passion every time. Now 25 years later, the family tree is going strong, thanks to her encouragement. We always had to laugh as fellow Democrats that she beat out my late uncle, George Ottery for the job on top of everything!

May her soul find peace and my thoughts and prayers for the family. God Bless.

Hi Sheila,
I doubt that you know me but I am daughter of Lauretta(Braun)Sterr. I loved your mom's spirit and sparkle in in eyes. I have fond memories of your mom giving me a tour of the Holylands including all the family farms and neighbors she knew. We shared the love of baseball also.
What a treasure she was to so many people.
My deepest sympathy to you and your family and friends on the death of your mom.
Fond Regards, Karen Sterr
