Former Fond du Lac resident, Clifton R. Peterson, M.D., age 93, died peacefully in his sleep on November 3, 2013 at his home in Cardiff by the Sea, CA. He was born January 14, 1920 and was raised in Minneapolis, MN where he graduated medical school from the University of Minnesota. He married Genevieve G. Prescott on March 28, 1942. Clifton served as a captain in the U.S. Army in the 1950's and was stationed in Germany. Upon return he resided in Fond du Lac with his wife and three sons. He was a pediatrician with a practice at the Sharpe Clinic from 1951 to 1985. Clifton and Gen, a violinist, were active in community orchestra and he was also the president of Community Concerts for one year. After retiring he volunteered in the Doctors Without Borders program working with the Native American population in the southwest.
Clifton loved reading, music, collecting art, architecture, and landscape design. In 1992 he and his wife moved to Solana Beach, CA where they enjoyed coastal living and the ocean. They also resided in Temecula, CA where Clifton indulged his passion for organic farming and selling his produce at the local farmer's market. Earlier this year they moved to senior living in Cardiff by the Sea.
He is survived by his wife Genevieve of 71 years, son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Angelica Peterson and granddaughter Abigail (Philippines), son and daughter-in-law Glenn and Naomi Peterson (Chula Vista, CA) and her son Christopher Hawkins (Costa Mesa, CA), son and daughter-in-law James Peterson and M. Elizabeth Casper (Oshkosh, WI) and grandson Landen Peterson (Fond du Lac, WI), his beloved sister Alice Johnson (Perry, IA), his beloved sister-in-law Elaine Banks (Leucadia, CA), nieces and nephews Linda Christenson (Oceanside, CA), Tom Olson and wife Pamela (Leucadia, CA) and his son Jamie Olson, Doug Johnson and wife (Perry, IA), Sylvia Johnson, M.D. and husband (Seattle WA), and the children of deceased brothers Reuben and Charles.
To honor Clifton there was a private memorial service through El Camino Memorial with family and friends and his ashes were spread among the waves of the Pacific Ocean that he loved so much.
