Margaret Clare(1923 - 2018)

Mrs. Margaret Clare, 94, of Troy, MO, passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2018, in Centralia, MO. She was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1923 to Russell and Frances (McLean) Wright at Prairie Hill, MO, in Chariton County. She was a graduate of Prairie Hill High School, Moberly Junior College, and the University of Missouri.
After teaching in country schools, while she was in college, she became a high school business teacher. In 1947 she came to Troy to teach at Buchanan High School and met John Clare at a church party. They married December 23, 1950, in Troy, MO.
They had three children: Frances, Frank, and Robert. She returned to teaching in the fall of 1959. Margaret served as a room mother, 4-H, Cub Scout and Brownie leader. She also was an active member of the Town and Country Extension Club, the Evangeline Federated Club, and the Christian Women's Fellowship. She received the Troy Chamber of Commerce Woman of the Year Award in 1984. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Troy. Her husband, John, was always a source of local historical information; so in her retirement, Margaret began researching and recording historical and genealogical information with him. They were active in the Lincoln County Historical Society. Together Margaret and John collected information about the history of Lincoln County churches which was in included in the 1975 Lincoln County Pictorial History Book. They wrote the Dosquicentennial Historical Book for Troy's 175th anniversary in 1994. They did extensive genealogical work on both of their families, traveling to Kentucky and Virginia to collect and document family information.
She is survived by her children: Fran Schnarre and husband, Brian of Centralia; Frank Clare and wife, Paulette of Eldon; Bob Clare and his wife Elizabeth of Troy, 10 grandchildren: Jake Schnarre and his wife, Melissa, Misty Werkmeister and her husband, Gary; Mendy Clare; Fritz Schnarre and wife, Barbi; Molly Akers and husband, Lee; Stephanie Poettker and husband, James; Melaney Higgins and husband, David; Nikki Baker and husband, Jeff; Stacy Snyder and husband, Patrick; and Erin Clare. She has 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. She is also survived by her brother, Lowell Wright, and his wife, Minnie, of Salisbury, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
A visitation to be held on Sunday, July 22, 2018, from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., at the McCoy-Blossom Funeral Homes & Crematory in Troy.
A funeral service to also be held on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Troy. Rev. Karen Shearer to officiate. Pallbearers will be: Gary Werkmeister, David Higgins, Lee Akers, Patrick Snyder, Jacob Schnarre, Fritz Schnarre, Jeff Baker. Interment to follow in Troy City Cemetery, Troy.
