WESTMINSTER -- Sylvia Elizabeth (Morse) Ahlin, 84, died Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at Heywood Hospital, after an illness.
She leaves her husband, Richard "Jiggs" W. Ahlin; two sons, Richard M. Ahlin and his wife, Liz of Ashburnham, Philip C. Ahlin and his wife, Kathryn of Portsmouth, NH; three grandchildren, Jenny Mundie of Fitchburg, Abby Shea of Portsmouth, NH, and Evan Ahlin of CA; four great-grandchildren, twin great-granddaughters, Lilly and Brooke Mundie and Calliet Mundie, all of Fitchburg, and Reid Jonathan Shea of Portsmouth, NH.
Sylvia was born in Gardner, on October 16, 1928, a daughter of the late Merrill E. and Catherine B. (Jones-Henry) Morse. Sylvia was a lifelong resident of Westminster. She graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1946 and also graduated from Becker Junior College in 1948. She worked as a Secretary for the Westminster Elementary School for 19 years and for the Superintendent of Schools for six years. Sylvia also worked as the Secretary for the Director of the Gardner VNA for several years as well, and was a wife and mother.
Sylvia was a member of the First Congregational Church of Westminster, a member of the Westminster Historical Society and volunteered at the Heywood Hospital. She enjoyed being at home, doing her cross stitch, and traveling with Jiggs, Most of all, she love to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sylvia will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
AHLIN -- Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the First Congregational Church of Westminster, 138 Main Street, Westminster, MA 01473. Burial will be Private at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Westminster, MA. Calling Hours will be on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 from 4:00 -- 7:00 P.M. in the Westminster Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 123 Main Street, Westminster, MA 01473. In lieu of Flowers, Sylvia's family asks for Memorial Contributions be made to the Alfreda Altobelli Memorial Fund, C/O the Forbush Memorial Library, 11 South Street, Westminster, MA 01473 or may be left at the Funeral Home.
