GARDNER -- Jennie M. Bessette, 89 of Gardner, died Sunday, February 10, 2013 in the River Terrace Healthcare, Lancaster.
She was born in Gardner, on January 10, 1924, the daughter of the late Walter and the late Jozefa (Medecksa) Sokolowski.
Jennie was a lifelong resident of Gardner, graduating with the Gardner High School Class of 1942. She worked for the former Goodnow Pearsons Department Store in Gardner for 40 years, retiring in 1989. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and a member of the Rosary Sodality, where she served as an officer for many years. She was also a member of the Polish American Social League. She enjoyed golfing, swimming, tennis and bicycling.
She leaves one son: James Bessette of Fernandina Beach, FL; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; one sister: Irene Robichaud of Orange.
She was predeceased by her husband James L. "Jim" Bessette in 1993, her son David Bessette in 2012; four brothers: Anthony Sokolowski, Francis Sokolowski, Wacy Sokolowski, Stanley Sokolowski; and one sister: Victoria Hadmack.
BESSETTE -- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 11:00 am in St. Joseph's Church, 358 Pleasant St., Gardner. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours will be held Saturday, February 16, 2013 from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. in the Poliks Funeral Home, 431 Pleasant St., Gardner.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to St. Joseph's Church, 358 Pleasant St., Gardner, MA 01440 or to a charity of one's choice.
