LEOMINSTER -- Alexander Krysil, 92, of Leominster, owner and operator of The Book Shop on Main St. in Fitchburg, passed away Wednesday, May 21, in his home.

Alex was born on October 19, 1921, a son of the late Gabriel and Alexandra Krysil. He graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1939 where he was on the basketball and track teams, and also on the debate club.

He proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII as a radio communicator.

Alex purchased the Book Shop, Inc. in 1952 on Main Street in Fitchburg with his sister, Anna. He owned and operated the business for over 40 years. Alex was a member of Industrial Development Commission for over 10 years. In 1975 he served as the chairman on the Fitchburg Industrial Development Commission. Alex went to work in Boston at the Dept. of Defense and Logistics Dept. in the Procurement Division for over eight years. Alex was an avid reader with a deep love for his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

He leaves his daughter, Tanya Aubin and her husband John of Leominster; his son, Steven Krysil and his wife Nichole of Aubrey, TX; grandchildren, Christopher Morrissey of Lunenburg, Stephen Morrissey of Philadelphia, PA, Connor Morrissey of Lunenburg, Grace and Skitch Krysil both of Texas; sister, Anna Wilson of Tucson, AZ; brother, Nicholas Krysil of Leominster.

KRYSIL -- The funeral will be held in Christ Church, 569 Main St., Fitchburg on Friday, May 30, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Thursday, May 29, from 6-8 PM in Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made in Alex's name to the Fitchburg Fire Department, 33 North St., Fitchburg, MA 01420 or to the Fitchburg Police Association, 20 Elm St., Fitchburg, MA 01420.
