FITCHBURG -- Arthur J. Blake Sr., 86, a resident of Fitchburg since 1950, died Tuesday, March 11, in Clinton Hospital, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

He leaves his wife of 63 years, Lorraine E. (Kelty) Blake; one son, Arthur J. Blake Jr. of Leominster; two daughters, Cathy L. Andrews and her husband, David of Fitchburg, and Sharon L. Ogni, and her husband, Joseph of Boynton Beach, FL; six grandchildren, Katie Andrews, Elizabeth Lough, Andrew Blake, Evan Blake, Denise Casey and James Gendron; three great-grandchildren, Brandon Gendron, Courtney Greenidge and Zachary Moore.

He was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth E. Blake Jr. in 2005, and a sister, Catherine A. Blake in 2003, both of Fitchburg.

Mr. Blake was employed by the City of Fitchburg, Department of Public Works, for many years as a Mechanic, retiring in 1993.

Arthur was a hardworking, caring family man, that loved to make a good joke. He attended Salem High School and then joined the U.S. Navy serving as a Seaman Second Class, from 1944 to 1948. He was a member of the Retired State, County and Municipal Employees Association, and was a member of St. Bernard's Parish in Fitchburg.

He was born in Salem, MA, on September 28, 1927, a son of the late Kenneth and Alice (Fields) Blake.

BLAKE -- Arthur's Funeral will be celebrated on Saturday, March 15, from the Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli and Fitchburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Home, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Bernard's Parish @ St. Camillus de Lellis Church, 333 Mechanic St., Fitchburg. Burial, with Military Honors will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery.
