Barbara J. McCue, 89

FITCHBURG -- Barbara J. McCue, 89, a lifelong resident of Fitchburg, died peacefully at Golden Living Center early Monday, June 23, after a long illness.

She leaves a brother, Mark D. McCue and his wife, Janet of Fitchburg; and her nieces and nephews and their spouses, Joanne and James Lavoie of Lunenburg, Marianne and Kevin Connor of Fitchburg, Rosemary and Joseph Coletti of Mansfield, Kathy and Rick Cahill of Holden, Brian and Marsha McCue of Fitchburg, Maura and Terry Donovan of Westminster, John and Timothy Carpenter, both of Fitchburg and Michael McCue in NH.; and many grand nieces and nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers and sisters, George H. McCue in 1998, John P. 'Jack' McCue and Elizabeth A. 'Betty' McCue, both in 1996, Rose Ann McCue in 1993 and Mary L. Carpenter in 1972 and a great-grand nephew, Christopher Coletti in 1990.

Barbara was employed by the New England Telephone Co., beginning her career at the age of 18 as an Operator, and later becoming a Supervisor Observer until her retirement in 1990.

She was a 1942 graduate of Fitchburg High School and a member of the Telephone Pioneers for many years. She served the City of Fitchburg as Registrar of Voters from 1983 to 2008. She was a lifelong member of St. Bernard's Parish in Fitchburg and the St. Vincent DePaul Society. She ran the 'Bingo Night' at the former Birchwood Manor Nursing Home for its residents for many years.

She was born in Fitchburg, on January 23, 1925, a daughter of the late J. Henry and Mary L. (Comley) McCue.

She loved to work in her garden and travel, but most of all she was devoted to her family.

MCCUE -- Barbara's Funeral will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 25, from the Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli and Fitchburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes, 243 Water St., Fitchburg, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Bernard's Parish at St. Camillus de lellis Parish, 333 Mechanic St., Fitchburg, MA.

Burial will follow at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Fitchburg.

Calling hours at the Funeral Home are on Wednesday, June 25, from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Golden Living Center Activity Fund, 1199 John Fitch Highway, Fitchburg, MA 01420 or may be left at the Funeral Home.
