Beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend; 51
FITCHBURG -- David Walsh, 51, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, September 19, 2013, surrounded by family, after a
14 month battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was a beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend.
He was born in Fitchburg on Dec. 2, 1961, a son of the late John F. and Dorothy (Progin) Walsh. A lifelong Fitchburg resident, Dave attended St. Bernard's Elementary and High School, graduating in 1979.
After high school, he enlisted in the Naval Reserves.
Following in his father's footsteps, Dave became a part of another large family, Verizon, where he worked for 27 years. Starting as a tech, Dave rose to management and was the Supervisor for Network Engineering and Operations Division of Verizon. He was dedicated to his job and employees and could always be counted on to resolve any problems that came his way.
Outside of work, David was an avid golfer, an all around New England sports fan, a frequent KENO player, and a sports car enthusiast. He participated in many local charity golf tournaments, and was dedicated fan of Leominster Varsity Girls Basketball. He recently became a collector of quarters, and he had a great appreciation for DIY, all Pawn Stars, and Storage Wars. He was committed to his family and could often be found at events for or spending time with his many nieces, nephews, and their kids. His devotion to his family and friends defined him, and his loss will be felt be by all that knew him.
The family would like to thank Dr Matthew Yurgulin and Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Health Alliance Medical Center, Dr Sheila Donnelly and the staff at the Henry Heywood Oncology Suite and Health Alliance Home Care and Hospice for the excellent care and compassion given.
He leaves a daughter, Nicole Walsh of Los Angeles, CA; five brothers, William F. Walsh and his wife, Diane with whom he lived of Fitchburg, John J. Walsh and his wife, Pamela of Winchendon, Frank B. Walsh and his wife, Jodi of Fitchburg, Joseph P. Walsh and his wife, Maryanne of South Carolina, and Thomas "TJ" Walsh and his wife, Mary of San Francisco, CA; four sisters, Dorothy McNamara and Kathleen Walsh, both of Fitchburg, Mary Gaa and her husband, William of Pennsylvania, and Carol Isbell and her husband, Dennis of New Hampshire; a brother-in-law, James Meehan of Fitchburg; an aunt, Sister Dorothy Walsh of Holyoke; and several nephews and nieces.
He is predeceased by a brother, Michael T. Walsh, and a sister, Norma Meehan.
WALSH -- The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 24, from the Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in St. Bernard's Parish at St. Camillus de Lellis Church, 333 Mechanic St. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home will be held on Monday, Sept. 23, from 4 to 8 PM.
