FITCHBURG -- Edward P. Ryan, 84, a longtime Fitchburg resident, died Wednesday, March 12, at the Golden Living Center, after a long illness, with his loving family by his bedside.

His first wife of 43 years, Beverly J. (Jollymore) Ryan, died in 1993. His second wife of 10 years, Alice (LaRose) Ryan, died in 2004.

He leaves a son, Thomas P. Ryan, and his wife, Linda of Medford, Oregon; one daughter, Sharon J. Capoccia, and her husband, Frank of Fitchburg; one brother, Howard Ryan of Worcester, MA; six grandchildren, Anthony and Cassandra Capoccia and Sarah, Melissa, Daniel and Allison Ryan and four great-grandchildren, Christian Capoccia, Dominic Martinez, Sidney Capoccia and Symone McCall; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a grandson, Stephen Ryan in 2012, and two brothers, Maurice and Richard Ryan, and four sisters, Elizabeth LaRose, Claire Wiederlight, Beatrice Kane and Gloria LeTendre.

Mr. Ryan was employed by the Mitre Corp. of Bedford, MA, as a Transportation Supervisor for 34 years, retiring in 1991.

Edward was known to be an excellent woodworking craftsman, and was a member of the National Ski Patrol at Mt. Wachusett Ski Area for many years. He was a member of St. Bernard's Parish in Fitchburg, and attended the former St. Paul's High School in Worcester.

He served in the U.S. Air Force, with the rank of Corporal.

He was born in Worcester, MA, on February 15, 1930, a son of the late Maurice P., and Beatrice M. (Murphy) Ryan and moved to Fitchburg in 1955.
