Elizabeth M. Paquet
Loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister; 86

LEOMINSTER -- Elizabeth Mary Brown Paquet, 86, of West Yarmouth, MA, formerly of Leominster, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2013.

"Betty" was born in Fitchburg on September 22, 1927, daughter of Rose (McCaffrey) Brown and Alvah Lawrence Brown.

Betty leaves her husband, Paul Paquet of West Yarmouth; her daughters Laurie Banks of Park City, Utah, and Katy Furey of Marblehead; and sons Raymond "Jay" Allain, Jr. of Kingston, RI, and A. Luke Allain of Winthrop; step-sons, Scott Paquet of Lunenburg, Stewart Paquet of Ashby, and Steven Paquet of Ashby; and step-daughters, Susan Regan of Fitchburg, and Sharon Vom Eigen of Leominster; two siblings, Helena Semerjian of Lunenburg, and Walter Brown of Leominster; 12 grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Raymond Allain, Sr. in 1969, and by her son, Jamie Allain in 2013. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Mary Brown, Albert Brown, William Brown, Robert Brown, Mildred Morin, Thomas Brown, Rosemary Bergman, and Charles Sidney Brown.

While Betty was raising five children at 231 Priest Street in Leominster, she earned a Licensed Practical Nurse diploma, and worked many years at Leominster Hospital.

A few of her most enduring attributes were her love of golf and gardening, her cooking prowess and her abiding faith. To wit: She nurtured all growing things and kept a garden into her 70's when her sons, Jamie and Jay, took up their spades in her stead. From her kitchen emerged an endless parade of culinary delights including chocolate fudge, Anedama bread, home-made pies and blueberry pancakes akin to crepes. Often, she hosted cozy gatherings featuring such delights.

Yet perhaps more than anything, her faith sustained her. Till the end, Bible snippets and holy images seemed to adorn every room. Regular Mass inspired her in hopeful times and bad - and with the declining health of her beloved husband, Paul, her doting son, Jamie, and her own in recent months, faith was a cornerstone.
