FITCHBURG -- Henry A. "Hank" Ruel, Jr., 80, a lifelong resident of Fitchburg, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2013, in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Hank was born in Fitchburg on January 29, 1933, a son of the late Henry and Sarah (LeBlanc) Ruel.
He worked for Saint Bernard's Central Catholic High School as a custodian for 30 years. Hank was a lifelong member of the AM Vets and also Saint Joseph's Church. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War
He was a man of strong faith, not only in God, but in his family. Hank loved to play cards and visit the casino. His passion was cars, both new and antique. He was a New England sports fan, especially the Red Sox. Hank truly enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Hank leaves his beloved wife of 60 years, Claire (Joly) Ruel of Fitchburg; his children, Kenneth Ruel of Leominster, Nancy Culver of Fitchburg, Janice King and her partner, James Silva of Fitchburg; grandchildren, Kimberly Pitard and husband, Jerodd, Scott Norton and wife, Dianne, Jennifer Camerano and husband, Jason, Tracy Secrest, Sara St. Jean and husband, John; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; his brother, Robert Ruel and wife, JoAnn of Leominster; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his sister, Doris Landry.
RUEL -- The funeral will be held from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 with a Mass in Saint Joseph's Church at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday, September 2, from 5:00-7:00 P.M., and also Tuesday morning from 9:30-10:30 A.M. in the funeral home.
