ATHOL, MA -- Hope A. Heeder, 56, of Athol, died Friday, November 16, 2012, at her residence.

Hope was born in Albany, NY, September 22, 1956, a daughter of the late Robert and Virginia (Maxwel) Heeder, and grew up in the Capital District area in NY. She was a graduate of Maple Hill High School in Castleton-on-the-Hudson, NY.

Following her graduation from high school, Hope entered the United States Army, serving her country for three years. She then began a thirty four year career as a civilian employee at Fort Devens in Ayer. Most recently she worked as the supervisor of the food services as well as coordinator of the Fort Devens Cemetery.

Hope's heart and generosity were immensurable. She always had a love for animals. Over the years Hope has opened her home to any animal in need. Dogs, cats, baby birds and even the occasional human, found refuge in her home. She will be missed greatly by family and friends.

She leaves behind her sister and brother-in-law, Jill and Mark Conway of Ballston Spa, NY and a niece, Christina Frechette of North Greenbush, NY. The family would also like to thank her dear friends and the Gardner Visiting Nurses Association Hospice who made it possible for her to stay in her home till the end.

Friends and family are welcome to celebrate Hope's life at her memorial service which will be held at 2 PM Saturday, December 1st at the T.J. Anderson & Son Funeral Home, 25 Fitchburg Road (Rte 2A) Ayer. The Family will receive family and friends on Saturday from 1 PM until the time of the service. A small family funeral will be held at a later date in Castleton-on-the-Hudson, NY.
